The Square of Freedom is the greatest square in Bosnia and Herzegovina with its surface of 8,000 m2. It is the place where historical and cultural monuments from almost all historical eras are located. An archeologocal site with very significant remains from the Neolithic was discovered on the Square. The central point of the Square is a huge fountain with the shape of a dish for salt boiling. On the northern side of the Square there is a sculpture which symbolizes a medival tombstone stećak, with ornaments from the medieval tombstnes carved into marble slabs.
Bazaar Mosque, a mosque from the 16th century, is also located there, Ruždija (from 1883), Bazaar Drinking-Fountain (1888) and “Baroque building” (1900) dating from the period of the Austro-Hungarian rule.
